My Story
I’m Lilia Patricia Reade Pellicano. I was born on September 20, 1953. Yep, I’m a part of the Boomer Generation. I was born and pretty much raised in El Paso, Texas. It sits on that little point that looks like a triangle. My Mom’s family owned Mexican restaurants throughout my childhood, where my siblings, cousins and I went after school. My Dad’s family worked for the Railroad or were Entrepreneurs.
After graduating High School, I attended and earned a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from The University of New Mexico. Then a Masters from University of Texas El Paso. Both are in education.
During my university days, I married Julio Pellicano, who also was a teacher. We have two wonderful sons, who grew up to be wonderful men.
We applied and were accepted into the Department of Defence Dependent Schools -DODDS in 1983. The organization is now called DoDEA-Department of Defense Education Activity. Our first assignment was in Pirmasens, Germany, and for the next 17 years we taught and traveled all over the world.
When my husband died in 1999, I came home to Texas for a couple of years, then went back to DoDDS, this time Hanau, Germany.
I retired in 2008, from DoDEA having taught Culinary Arts and other subjects.
Coming back to Texas, I taught Culinary Arts for about 12 years at the same amazing High School. I retired in 2021 with 42+ years of teaching. In about 6 months, I got bored and decided to pursue my other bucket list items. Writing a book, I have written two: Pelli’s Essential Recipes and a Retirement Guide. Currently, I created a Basic Cooking Course for People who can’t cook. It’s been a joy to create. I also traveled to Utjoski, Iceland to see the Northen Lights.
